As UIs in feature films increasingly become more elaborate and complex, real-world interfaces become more simple and intuitive. Cinematic engagement depends upon creating the perception that our film heroes are strong and intelligent enough to overcome the most sophisticated technology. But when these movies end, we enter a vastly different world. We have a long way to go to perfect the complex UIs Hollywood envisions.
There’s one essential piece of information missing from the Flash vs. HTML5 debate: You can learn a lot about the future of the web by looking at its past. A lot of the opinions I’ve read about the Flash vs. HTML debate either fail to acknowledge this or assume everyone knows it.
