The Visibility of Women in Technology

Of course there were lots of talented women representing our industry at MAX, but this was an interesting illustration of an imbalance I see all the time in design, technology, and UX: according to a 2007 study by An Event Apart, women in the IT workforce are outnumbered by men by over three to one.

By putting user experience first, Herff Jones was able to create an application that essentially shields users from the complex, powerful tools used to create yearbooks, instead presenting them with instructional content and controls that are easy to understand, and design elements aimed at the student.
