Life-saving technologies require the utmost efficiency to effectively ensure people’s safety in dangerous situations, so when Honeywell Fire Safety sought to streamline their safety system management, the company enlisted Effective. Tasked with a great responsibility, Effective’s objective was to improve fire safety monitoring and to allow site managers to receive test results in near real-time. This initiative’s solution was the new eVance Services Web and Mobile Apps.
Honeywell Fire Safety offers a line of life-saving products and services for fire protection and first responders. Committed to the utmost security, Honeywell Fire Systems partnered with Effective to create the eVance Services—a set of desktop and mobile applications that streamlines alarm system testing and maintenance. Working closely with Honeywell, Effective created the application workflows for the software system, providing detailed user interface specifications and visual designs for both applications. A great example of co-creation, Effective and Honeywell combined their expertise and split responsibilities, with Honeywell focused on software engineering and Effective concentrated on usability and task efficiency.
eVance Services offers two separate applications: Service Manager and Inspection Manager. Service Manager—a Web-based application for the desktop, laptop and mobile devices—streamlines dispatching, scheduling and maintenance activities. Inspection Manager—a mobile application—assists in on-site systems testing.
Service Manager provides all necessary information to manage building sites in one application. Dispatchers can access and update maintenance schedules, receive real time panel alerts and have 24/7 access to information on all fire safety equipment for each site. Since all information is stored in the cloud, dispatchers can update and share details, while receiving automatic alerts if equipment needs attention or an alarm is triggered.
Inspection Manager allows technicians to efficiently test all fire safety equipment on site. Before the Inspection Manager mobile app, two technicians were needed to conduct every test, with one technician testing while another watched the control panel for results. With Inspection Manager’s increased efficiency, only one technician is needed for equipment and alarm testing. Test results appear in near real-time after the panel information is sent from the cloud to the mobile app. Additionally, photos of system components or areas needing additional attention can easily be added to reports through the application.
Currently, thousands of buildings are using eVance Services applications. Managers and dispatchers eliminate 70% of duplicative data entry with the efficiency of the Service Manager application. The Inspection Manager application reduces the chance for errors in testing and creates accurate, professional test reports that users can deliver immediately upon completion of the test.
