EffectiveUI + City & County of Denver Take Home Stevies’ Gold at 14th Annual American Business Awards

EffectiveUI and the City & County of Denver were honored with a Gold Stevie® Award for best app design in the business/government category at the 14th Annual American Business Awards in New York last night.

“This app should set the standard for government apps,” a statement from the Stevie Awards judges panel during the review process.

The City & County of Denver partnered with EffectiveUI to optimize online experiences that increase engagement with residents and to convert “callers to clickers.” In an effort to make city information more digitally accessible, the City & County of Denver and EffectiveUI created a responsive, self-service experience based on ethnographic research and service-centered architecture.

From phone, tablet or desktop, the new PocketGov.com allows residents to report problems in their neighborhoods, ask questions, renew vehicle license plates, store library and recreation center cards, sign up for personalized services like street sweeping and waste pick-up reminders, and more.

Launched in January 2015, the platform provides an ever-expanding personalized experience, with new services launching monthly. Since its launch, nearly 20,000 Denver residents have created personalized user accounts on PocketGov.com and more than 42,000 311 requests, inquiries, or complaints have originated through the tool, furthering the city’s goal of converting calls to clicks.

"Pocketgov allows us to bring services to our residents wherever they are, saving them and the city time and money," said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. "We are proud of the work we've done with our partners at EffectiveUI and honored to be recognized for this work by the American Business Awards."

The American Business Awards are the nation’s premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S. are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word meaning “crowned,” the awards were presented to winners during a gala banquet on Monday, June 20, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. Nearly 500 nominees and their guests attended. More than 3,300 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories, including Startup of the Year, Executive of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Live Event of the Year and Human Resources Department of the Year, among others. More than 200 executives worldwide participated in the judging process to select this year’s Stevie Award winners.

"We have a passion for making the complex simpler, for humanizing technology," said Rebecca Flavin, CEO, EffectiveUI. "EffectiveUI partners with clients who believe digital experiences matter -- governments, companies and organizations who are looking to make real change within their industries and communities. We are thrilled our work for the City & County of Denver's Pocketgov app has welcomed such a great reception."
