EffectiveUI Collects More than 500 Pounds of Supplies for Denver Area Students
EffectiveUI, as part of its participation in the Volunteers of America and 9News “Stuff for Students School Supply Drive,” recently collected and delivered nearly $7,500 worth of school supplies to Denver-area children.
EffectiveUI donated 55 backpacks, and then staff members collected nearly 500 pounds of supplies to fill them. The backpacks – customized with supplies for both elementary and middle/high school needs – were delivered directly to students currently residing at two Volunteers of America facilities: The Family Motel, serving families, women, youth and others needing short term housing; and the Brandon Center, serving women and children affected by domestic violence.
Eighteen percent of Colorado children live in poverty, with 31 percent of Denver’s children below the poverty line. With Colorado schools facing unprecedented budget cuts and the number of children living in poverty continuing to grow, more students than ever are starting school without the necessary tools to succeed.

The National Retail Federation estimates that the average cost for school supplies for the 2014-2015 school year is $101.18 per student.
Since 2005, 9News and Volunteers of America have partnered in the annual, statewide Stuff for Students program, which runs through. The 2014 supply drive has raised nearly $40,000 worth of supplies that will benefit 100,000 students across Colorado this school year.
